General wordpress settings

Site Title: This is title user see at first sight, generally your brand name. For example Tata Motors, Airtel, Flipkart, Amazon, PIJA Education, Shoolin Labs etc.

Tagline: It should describe your business in few words. You can leave it blank it’s your choice. For example Tata Motors use Connecting Aspiration, or someone can use like Technology beyond imagination.

Administration Email Address: If you want to receive mails to yours any other email than admin@domain_name.com, you can change this here like user@gmail.com. Then you have to verify the email account you entered.

2) READING WORDPRESS SETTINGS

Your homepage displays:

Right now home page looks like see images below (1).

If someone visit your website and on front page see posts you created is not user always expect, so it is good practice, to have a landing page should be a home page which describes your business and your blog/posts link should be in top header. See url and page in image (2) below.

So to change blog posts page, I changed “Your homepage displays” to “A static page” and selects HOME as homepage and BLOG as post page. These pages we already created in how to add pages in wordpress.

Then home page looks like (Notice the URL) see image (3) and blog page looks like see image(4).

Blog pages show at most: Lets you choose how many blog posts are displayed per page. The default setting is 10 posts per page. Setting a higher number of posts to display on each page can potentially impact load times on your blog.

For each feed in a post include: Full text means that the entire contents of a post are included in the feed. Summary means that only the first 55 words are included in the feed, along with the option to continue reading the rest of the post. Summary (recommended).

Save Changes: Don’t forget to save changes you made.

3) PERMALINKS WORDPRESS SETTINGS

Permalinks as it names implies permanent links means URLs of your post or page, it’s permanent and doesn’t change for many years.

It is better to decide permalink at creation of post or page because it plays an important role in SEO and page rankings. Permalinks should be short and relevant to your topic.

For example my post is about wordpress settings, so I should use “wordpress-settings” as slug to my website URL, which results as https://pijaeducation.com/wordpress-settings/.

If it has parent page then it will look like https://pijaeducation.com/wordpress/wordpress-settings/.

WordPress allows you to change permalinks in many formats like, you want user to view post name or date it was posted or both etc. You can understand it better with images below or view video created for you.
