Electronics

Before we start with basic electronics concepts we need to know some common terms and their meaning.

It is a known fact that requirements and needs lead to inventions and discoveries.

आवश्यकता ही आविष्कार की जननी है।

Every techie wants to know how all electronic gadgets work and are  designed.

And how every field is becoming automated??

How could we techies could design automatic systems??

What is the concept behind it??

What is that technology, which is responsible to do all automation in every field???

Answer: Embedded system….

So in this session I am going to deliver on the Embedded system from the basics.

DO YOU KNOW? WHAT IS ELECTRONICS?

ELECTRONICS

It is a branch of physics and technology which deals with the study of behaviour of electrons in semiconductor and vacuum tubes. Modern Electronics deal with the devices which are made up of semiconductor material. It controls the flow of electrons and it works on the principle of moment of electrons and holes in semiconductors.

Electronics devices work on DC supply. Electronics cannot work directly on AC, AC signal needs to be rectified and filtered to provide a smooth DC signal to power the electronic circuitry within the device.

ELECTRICAL

The main difference between electrical and electronic circuits is that electrical circuits have no decision making or signal processing capability, while electronic circuits do.

An electric circuit simply powers machines with electricity. However, an electronic circuit can read a signal or an instruction, and perform a task according to the condition.

Nowadays, mostly devices or appliances are a combination of both electronics & electrical circuitry.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL?

Electrical vs Electronics

While we are talking about their differences, some people have misconceptions like Electronics works on low voltage while Electrical on high voltage supply, that’s not true.

Here are many MOSFET and OP-AMP (Electronics Component) works on more than 600 V, we can’t call them electrical devices. Even few transformers that can operate at 3-12 V are not to be said as electronics.

Actually we can’t differentiate them with the operating voltages. So there are key points below will help us in differentiating –

ELECTRONICS VS ELECTRICAL

1. DECISION MAKING CAPABILITY

Electronics devices have decision making capabilities like if a device receives a signal it can perform logical operation. For example – in the dark automatically turn on light, while Electrical devices can just operate on signals. For example  if the switch pressed fan will turn ON.

But it can be changed with modern development, because logic are HIGH and LOW, it can be implemented by giving the conductor a magnetic field which generates flux and induced electric field which will also be considered as logic, but this will not as fast as electronic devices and even the problem is size of integration.

Electronic IC/chips like Intel core i7 have 1.4 billion transistors on a single chip whose dimension is 3×3 cm2 approx.

2. MATERIAL MADE UP OF

Electronics involves devices made up of semiconductor material, while Electrical involves devices made up of conductors.

3. POWER HANDLING CAPABILITY

Electronics has one more advantage as well, even it can work on low voltages and currents up to few milliamps, millivolts etc. while electrical is able for transmission of 11 KV or more through high tension wires.

4. WORKING PRINCIPLE

Electronics works on the principle of flow of electrons and holes in semiconductor while electrical deals in electrons flows.
